01What you need
- Mac
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). The Mac release does not run on Intel Macs.
- macOS
- macOS 12 Monterey or later.
- Graphics
- Nothing extra. The effects render on the Mac’s own graphics through Metal.
- DaVinci Resolve
- DaVinci Resolve 19 or 20, the free edition or Studio.
- To install
- An administrator password for the Mac.
For Windows, see the Windows beta Read Me.
02Download
Sign in to your account and open Downloads. Each plugin has its own installer, a .pkg file. Use the same email address you bought with: that is your account.
The installer is the same with or without a license. Without one, the plugin works as a trial and its renders carry a watermark. Signing in with a license removes it.
03Install
- Quit DaVinci Resolve. Resolve looks for plugins only when it starts.
- Open the .pkg you downloaded and follow the installer.
- When macOS asks, enter an administrator password. The plugins go in a folder that belongs to the system, so the installer needs it.
- Open DaVinci Resolve.
The installer puts each plugin in the folder every OpenFX host on the Mac reads:
- Bradford Glitch:
/Library/OFX/Plugins/BradfordGlitch.ofx.bundle - Bradford Textures:
/Library/OFX/Plugins/BradfordTextures.ofx.bundle
This is the Library folder at the top of your disk, not the one in your home folder. To see it, choose Go > Go to Folder in the Finder and type /Library/OFX/Plugins.
04The first launch
Open the Color page, then the Effects panel, and look under OpenFX for the Bradford Operations group. It holds two effects, Bradford Glitch and Bradford Textures. Drag one onto a node. Using the effects in Resolve has the rest.
Each effect's settings end with an Account group, closed until you open it. Its Status line says where you stand. Before you sign in it reads Trial (watermarked), and renders carry a diagonal BRADFORD GLITCH TRIAL or BRADFORD TEXTURES TRIAL mark. The render itself always completes.
05Sign in
- In the Account group, press Sign In. Your browser opens, and the Status line reads Signing in: see your browser.
- Choose Sign in with Google, or Email me a link and open the link in that email. There is no password: your email is your account. An emailed link works once, within 15 minutes.
- Go back to Resolve. With a license, the Status line reads Leased on this computer until a time, then your email, and the watermark is gone.
One sign-in covers both plugins on a computer. Each plugin still needs its own license: if you bought only one, the other stays a trial and its Status line reads Not purchased (trial).
You sign in once on each computer. Licenses and computers explains how the license then moves between them.
06Updating
When a newer version is out, the Status line ends with update and its version number. Download the new installer from Downloads, quit Resolve, and run it. It replaces the old plugin in the same folder.
Updates do not change how a saved project renders. See Look Version in Using the effects in Resolve.
07Removing a plugin
- In the Account group, press Sign Out. It signs this Mac out of both plugins, gives back its licenses, borrowed or not, so another computer can use them, and removes the sign-in from the Keychain.
- Quit DaVinci Resolve.
- In the Finder, go to
/Library/OFX/Pluginsand moveBradfordGlitch.ofx.bundleorBradfordTextures.ofx.bundleto the Trash. macOS asks for an administrator password.
The plugins leave a few small things behind, which you can delete too:
- If you removed a plugin without signing out: sign-in items in the Keychain Access app, named com.bradfordoperations.glitch (both plugins use them).
- Preferences:
~/Library/Application Support/Bradford Operations/plugin-preferences.json - Glitch's log:
~/Library/Logs/Bradford Glitch.log
08If it does not appear
- Check that the Mac has Apple silicon: Apple menu > About This Mac shows a chip named Apple M1 or later.
- Check that the .ofx.bundle is in
/Library/OFX/Pluginsat the top of the disk, then quit and reopen Resolve.
