01On the Color page

Open the Effects panel on the Color page. Under OpenFX, both plugins are in the Bradford Operations group. Drag an effect onto a node. Its controls open in the Settings panel.

Each plugin is one effect with a menu at the top of its settings:

  • Bradford Glitch has a Device menu: Encoder, Processor, Switcher, Receiver, Synth, Feedback, Frame Store, Chroma Phase, Bandwidth.
  • Bradford Textures has a Type menu: Ink on Paper, Screen, Game Boy Camera, Pixelvision, Photocopy, Thermal Receipt, Dot Matrix, Passive LCD, Photographic Print, Gravure, Cyanotype, Stencil Duplicator, Screen Print.

One node is one device or one type, and you stack nodes for more. Glitch is worked as a rack: a node for each device in a row, each set to its device, passing a real composite signal to the next. Textures puts the picture on one surface per node.

Projects made with earlier pre-release builds, where each device and type was a separate effect, still open. Those effects are kept in the Bradford Operations/Legacy group so their nodes load and render as before. For new work, use Bradford Glitch and Bradford Textures.

02On the Fusion page

Both plugins also work as tools on the Fusion page. In the Effects Library, open OpenFX and the Bradford Operations group, and add the effect to your composition like any other tool.

To be confirmed: Glitch on the Fusion page is fixed and passes every offline check; it has not yet been checked inside Resolve.

03The settings that matter first

  • Preset (Glitch). Most Glitch effects open with a Preset menu. Pick one, then adjust; the menu shows Custom as soon as anything differs, and choosing the preset again takes you back.
  • Mode (Glitch). Simple shows a few sliders that each move several controls. Advanced shows every control; switching to it writes the Simple sliders into the controls they move, so the picture does not change.
  • Device (Glitch) and Type (Textures) pick what the node is. Each keeps its own settings, so switching back finds them as you left them.
  • Account shows your license. See Licenses and computers.

04Color input

The effects were tuned on Rec.709 pictures with white at 1.0. Tell each node what your timeline is, and it converts in and back out exactly. In Glitch this is Input (on the rack devices, and in the Color group on the other effects); in Textures it is Input Transfer.

  • Rec.709 / Gamma 2.4 is used as it is.
  • Linear, ACEScct, ACEScc, ACEScg and ACES2065-1 are converted to Rec.709 and back.
  • On ACES timelines, Above White chooses whether values above white are clipped or kept. Make Default saves your choice for new nodes, in both plugins.

Neither plugin converts DaVinci Wide Gamut or camera log. On those timelines, put a Color Space Transform to Rec.709 before the effect and one back after it.

05Look Version: updates never change your projects

Every device and type has a Look Version menu, right under Account. When we improve how an effect looks, the improvement arrives as a new version in this menu rather than as a change to the old one.

  • A new node starts at the newest version.
  • A node in a saved project keeps the version it was made with, so updating a plugin never changes how a saved project renders.
  • To move a node to a newer look, pick it in the menu yourself.
  • Today every device and type has one version, 1 (launch).
  • A project saved with a newer version of the plugin than the one installed does not draw those nodes with an older look. The node fails its render and asks you to update.

06Saved projects

Every setting is saved in the Resolve project, as for any OpenFX effect. To open the project on another computer, install the plugin there. Without a license on that computer it renders with the watermark until you sign in (see Licenses and computers).

Projects made with the Windows beta use the same effects as the Mac release, so they open in either.

07Audio modulation has been removed

Earlier pre-release builds of Glitch could drive a control from an audio file. That is gone: Resolve gives OpenFX plugins no audio, and a separate file was not a good way back in. Glitch's three Modulation slots still take LFOs, random, wander and picture brightness. A project saved with a slot set to audio opens with all its other settings, and that slot renders as Off.
